Short sleeve bolero Pattern

I think it's a pretty good match, if not better. The pics definitely are. Trying to figure out how I did this from these terrible pics wasn't easy! : D

Materials: Size J or 6.00 mm crochet hook

11oz Worsted weight yarn

Gauge: 6 dc and 3 rows = 2 inches

Sizes: Small for bust size 30-32”, Medium for bust size 34-36” , Large for bust size 38-40”. Shown as s(m,l).

Abbreviations: ch - chain

sc(s) – single crochet(s)

st(s) - stitch(es)

dc(s) – double crochet(s)

dc2tog – double crochet two together

flo – front loop only

blo – back loop only

Notes:

This bolero is worked in rows until you get to the sleeves, they are worked in the round with joining and turning to keep a steady pattern. The border is worked in rounds with joins and no turning. I chose even rows to be the right side of the work and the odd rows to be the wrong side, tho it makes no difference other than in the pattern making.

Joining – When you are joining with a slst to the first single or double crochet I do mean that the beginning ch(s) are skipped. The first stitch of every round is worked in the same stitch as the joining slst.

ch 80(92, 104) -

Row 1: dc in 2^nd ch from hook, dc across, ch 2, turn. (78(90,102) dcs)

Row 2: 2 dc in 1^st dc, dc to last st, 2 dc in last st, ch 2, turn.

Row 3: dc across, ch 2, turn.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 five more times for a total increase of 12 dcs and a total of 92(102, 116) dcs, ending after a row 3.

Row 14: dc2tog, dc to within the last two sts, dc2tog, ch 2, turn.

Row 15: dc across, ch 2, turn.

Repeat rows 14 and 15 once more.

Starting right side armhole -

Row 18: dc2tog, dc 16(22,28), ch 2, turn.

Row 19: dc across, ch 2, turn.

Row 20: dc2tog, dc across, ch 2, turn.

Row 21: dc across, ch 2, turn.

Repeat rows 20 and 21 twice more for a total of 14(20,26) dcs, ending with a row 21.

Row 26: dc across, ch 2, turn.

Row 27: dc across, fasten off.

Left side armhole:

Count 18(24,30) sts in from the left (unworked) side of your work, re-attach yarn, ch 2.

Row 1: dc in same st as you've attached your yarn to, dc to within the last 2 sts, dc2tog, ch 2, turn.

Row 2: dc across, ch 2, turn.

Row 3: dc to within the last two sts, dc2tog, ch 2, turn.

Row 4: dc across, ch 2, turn.

Repeat rows 3 and 4 twice more for a total of 14(20,26) sts, ending with a row 4.

Row 9: dc across, ch 2, turn.

Row 10: dc across,fasten off.

Back:

Starting from the bottom of the right side armhole, skip two sts, attach yarn, ch 2.

Row 1: dc in same stitch as you've attached your yarn, dc across to with in two unworked sts, ch 2, turn.

Row 2- 8: dc across, ch 2, turn.

Back right side shoulder:

Row 9: dc 14(20,26), ch 2, turn.

Row 10: dc across, fasten off leaving at least an 8 inch tail for sewing the shoulder seams.

Back left side shoulder:

Count 14(20,26) sts in from left side, ch 2.

Row 1: dc across, ch 2, turn.

Row 2: dc across, fasten off leaving at least an 8 inch tail for sewing the shoulder seams.

Fold the right side front and right side back shoulder together and sew shoulder seem, and do the same for the left side front and left side back shoulder.

Right side sleeve:

With the right side of your work facing you, attach yarn at the bottom of the arm hole in the first unworked dc, ch 2.

Round 1: dc2tog, (using the st you've attached your yarn to and the other unworked dc from the bottom of the arm hole), 2 dc in each row end around, slst to the first dc, ch 2, turn. (41 sts)

Round 2: dc2tog, dc around, slst to the first dc, ch 2, turn. (40 sts)

Round 3: dc2tog, dc around, slst to the first dc, ch 1, do not turn. (39 sts)

Round 4: sc2tog, sc around, slst to the first sc, ch 1. (38 sts)

Round 5-7: (sc flo, sc blo) around, slst to first sc, ch 1.

Fasten off.

Left side sleeve:

Follow the same instructions as for right side sleeve.

Bolero border:

With right side facing, attach yarn somewhere around the lower center back (around your starting chain). With this border the joins are really hard to notice even if your trying so I did not get specific with this. Ever first flo sc of each round is worked in the same stitch as your joining slip stitch.

Round 1: sc in the space between each dc to within the last two spaces, place marker, (2 sc in next st) twice, 2 sc in each row end to back unworked dcs, sc2tog, sc across to within last 2 dcs, sc2tog, 2 sc in each row end to last row end, place marker, (2 sc in the space between dcs) twice, sc in each space between dcs across, join with a slst in the first sc, ch 1.

Round 2: (sc flo, sc blo) to marker, move marker up, (2 scs in next st) twice, (sc flo, sc blo) to marker, move marker up, (2 scs in next st) twice, (sc flo, sc blo) to end, slst to first sc, ch 1.

Round 3-4: keeping in pattern and sc flo in sc flo and sc blo in sc blo -

(sc flo, sc blo) to marker, move marker up, (2 scs in next st) twice, (sc flo, sc blo) to next marker, (2 scs in next st) twice, (sc flo, sc blo) to end, join with a slst to first actual st, ch 1.

Fasten off, hide ends.

This one was kind of a pain. I doubted it all the way up until putting the border on and now I love it.
Double layered only on the flaps, fpdcs for the dome so that part is pretty sturdy and thick. A heavy hat for sure. Also my pics are dark because of all the clouds, I tried to brighten them but didn't want to distort the color, editing is just not my thing.

I've received a request for a Napper's Respite. The problem with making hats that can be seen as real world hats is that I don't want it to look like a real world hat. I want it to look exactly like it does in the game except with yarn.
Another problem is that it's hard to find pictures of the hats from the back and side. Here's a pic I found of one:

and looking at this it looks like there is no fold in the back, just like the back is simply shorter than the front... seems simple enough. Then there's the question of the pom-pom which isn't like a regular real world pom-pom, it's smooth, which will also be simple enough. Yeah, I can do that! : D

I don't know what will become of me, lost in this tf2 relm but here I am.
I made a Pickelhaube, colored in team spirit. : D
I will be working on getting the pattern out within the next couple days as I make a red one.
My intention was to make the Berliners Bucket Helm next but I've run into some issues with it. I can't seem to get the bottom of the face plate to stay in place. I think I'll be able to fix it, I've had a few ideas. I'm also interested in making a Merryweather, I'd love to make a spartan, and a samur-eye and a big chief and a snaggletooth and so on.

Going with Fedora

I'm going to go with "Fedora" because all the evidence seems to point to this. :)
Going to be typing it up, also making a hat band (optional) to go with it.
I wanted the top of this hat to shape itself. I came across a bunch of these style hats but the top was all the regular round shape and it was just folded to make it look differently it seemed. So the top of this hat is a rain drop shape and really no extra shaping is needed. I also have the boat shaped top and will take pics and include those directions with the pattern.

Tyrolean vs. Fedora

Someone said to me "Nice Fedora" to a pic I had with nothing that said it was a Tyrolean so I did some searching on both the hats and came up with the only difference being that to be a Tyrolean it has to have a feather!
I wiki-ed the Tyrolean and the pics that come up truly don't look like the hat in the previous post, then I wiki-ed fedora and there I found that style. So then I Googled images of both the style of hats and I saw a lot of Fedora style Tyrolean or Tyrolean style Fedoras but it seemed that the only difference was.. dun dun dun... a feather.
Please! If someone reading this knows what makes the two different or if one is just a sub of the other, let me know. I would love to know what defines the two.

Everything I said in the last post did not happen. :)
There was no sewing, oddly enough I did kinda have a pear shape but you really can't see it. It did help to shape the hat tho. I can't write out the pattern for this one yet tho because I kinda just put stitches where I thought they should go without counting or patterns or anything, so I'm going to make another one today and write it down as I go.

Trying to make a tyrolean

I've been trying to get the shape of a Tyrolean style had right. I made this hat with an oval top, then increased the center of the front every other row, then added the brim. It came out cute but not exactly the shape I was looking for. I think next I'll try to make some kind of pear shaped top, I have a good idea of how I'm going to do it. Also I think that making the top separate from the rest of the hat and then sewing the two pieces together would make a better shape. I thought about making it fpdc's also but this is chunky yarn and I didn't want it to be super extra thick : D
Of course that can be changed in my next one...

Head has arrived!

I just got my head! My first impression was that it looked a little small, so I measured it right away and it's 20" around. Then I put some of my hats on it and fell in love. Tomorrow will be picture retake day, which will be fun. Replacing all the pictures, we'll have to see about that.
I'm also working on a vikings helmet based off of the pc game tf2. I'm almost done with it, kinda excited. There's gonna be a crochet pattern for that added within the next couple days, depending on how picture retake day works out.

Broken horn is still pinned on and buttons to be added. Happy happy tho.

So I tried size 7 needles on thicker yarn and it was still to small, so I made a huge jump and went to size 11 needles and it came out to big. I love the yarn so I'm going to be making swatches today. For the first time ever. I usually guess and can come at least close enough so that I know what I have to do but it's not working for this hat. So I understand why swatches are needed now.

I'm going to be working on a knitted hat the same as the "Awesome Cubes" which is what I've decided to call the hat in the last post. I'm going to have to title them Awesome Cubes (knit) and Awesome Cubes (crochet) I think. I made one last night but I used size 7 knitting needles and it came out a bit to small so it's going to be a seller. Today I'm going to use a nice thick blueish purple from expertly dyed, I think I'm going to try the size 7 again and see what happens, I'd like the stitches to be about the same size in the knit and the crochet if possible.We'll see what happens....

I made this last night, and worked on the pattern for two hours.. I've been working on it again for two hours, taking pictures and charting it out.. now I realize I've made a mistake in the 8th row of a 15 row chart so I have to go back and do it all over since I didn't save the chart file, just the pic of it.. ahhh Then I have to actually write it all out. So much easier to make these then to figure out how lol

update: finally finished it! So glad to be done. This pattern is going to be tested before it is posted, I'm hoping only a few days but we'll see.It shall be called "Awesome Cubes" : D

Buying a head.

I've wanted a mannequin head for a long time. The one I've been using is one I made from paper mache and panted it white.
I was very proud of it and happy to have it since, but it is very lumpy and dented and weak in spots. It has served it's purpose well but I think it's time. I'm pretty excited about it. I ordered it from amazon this morning. :D

Crochet Cubes

So I was on a crochet kick for the last few days and yesterday I was playing around with cables and missing my cubes and wondered if I could possibly..... So I decided to try to crochet them and much to my surprise I got it. I'm really really happy with how they came out, and they are reversible! The cubes are the same on both sides. I did a bit of google-ing and Ravelry searching and I didn't see any crochet cubes anywhere and I became very proud of myself :D This hat pattern is now available on my for sale patterns page for $5.

I've been experimenting with some of these cute types of hats. The fist time I was one was on a you-tube video from the giant robot project, and I knew I had to make one.
I can't seem to get over my love of cubes... tho this hat came out a bit smaller than I wanted so I guess I'll have to remake it... : D

I've done these hats with no increasing or decreasing at all, just sewn together at the top. I may try some shaping somewhere and see what happens.. Fun!

I fell in love with this pattern last week. It's from Shara Lambeth Designs, and it's free right here. This pattern is made from two sides sewn together but what I really liked about this pattern is that it dosn't get boring, there isn't any knit ss for 45 rows, each finger is only 9 rows and there's always a simple step thrown in. I love it. And when it's done it feels awesome on your hand.
In the first pic is the first pair I made and following the directions they fit perfectly in a size s for my seven year old son, they are quite worn already : D the bottom pic is the pair I made for myself in a size L. I see myself making alot of pairs of these. They are super simple, love the texture and just plain awesome.

Second Double Knit hat

This hat is made from wool yarn. It's a pretty big hat, when I put it on it looks like a mushroom top (lol) but I love it. It's thick and warm and will be the most worn this winter I'm sure. I made this with larger needles than was suggested in the pattern so that's why the size is much bigger. I also used the exact same cast on for the second color as I did with the first double knit hat but this time it came out perfect so maybe it's because I was purling instead of knitting... not really sure, but it works. I can't decide which side I like more, I thought maybe the side that starts with white would be a good lighter side but they both seem even in light and dark color wise, it's gonna be hard to decide which side to wear facing out. It was really fun to make and I know I'll be making more.

I've been feeling like I should post something but haven't known what to post. I've been working on three different things at once. One is a double knit hat from this pattern. The second is a blanket that I'm making for my son, and the third is another hat for a friend. By the looks of it I'll have them all done at the same time. The blanket I am doing on my knitting machine, I have never been able to make a knitted blanket by hand, it's very scary to me, I just don't know if I'd have the patience to finish it. So next time I post I'll have three projects to post for. : )

My first double knit hat

I made my first double knit hat over the last two days. So much fun to learn and now I feel like I've accomplished something and learned a new skill. I knit both layers, knowing that the purls would still be on the inside but it didn't matter to me. When I make another I'll do knits facing out on both sides, I didn't think it would matter, and if your thinking bout warmth it really doesn't, but it's not as reversible as a double knit can be, tho I like both sides. Also since this was a practice hat I've learned that I shouldn't pick up the second color by picking up loops in between the the stitches of the first, it created long stitches, that you can see in the last pic right above where the rib ends. Anyway, I love it and will wear it much this winter. And will diffidently be making more.

Crocheted Suede brimmed hat

This hat was a lot of fun to make, as much of a pain as it can be to crochet suede yarn. :)

I used to wire rings, one a little bigger than the other and crocheted around them, once at the end of my increase for the top, and once on the last row. I also increased for the last four rows to try and make them stick out.
It's made with Lion brand suede and size I crochet hook. I really like it and haven't decided if I can part with it yet. Pattern is really simple. Increase for dome as you would with my pretty cool crochet hat until you have 66 stitches around. Sc for 8 rows, switch colors, sc for 3 rows more. Then increase four rows as you would for the dome ending with 90 scs.
The wire was really just an option. I wanted the top to be a tight circle and couldn't get it with just crocheting, I tried smaller hooks and it just wasn't working so I decided on the wire. Glad I did now.

Trying some double knit

I've been working on practicing double knitting on two needles with one yarn held in my left hand and one yarn held in my right hand. I've been practicing for a couple day and am finally comfortable with it. I hold my yarn in my left hand typically to knit and getting use to holding it in my right hand was a task. At first I couldn't get the yarn to stay snug so I kept having to pull it from the bottom but after a while it corrected.
It was really confusing to figure out what color went where at first, until I became aware that knits were all on the side facing me and purls were all on the other side so I took it apart in my brain and just concentrated on what color went on the knit side, and the purls side followed. You can see in the first two pattern repeats in the pic I was still confused :)
I'd really love to make a double knit hat out of these two yarns, but I am STILL waiting for my double pointed needles. I feel like I'm at a stand still without them. :(

I love it. This hat is made with worsted weight yarn, completely washable. The pattern is pretty simple, it can be completely knit or have crocheted border, both are in the pattern. Just a fun thing to make.

Yesterday I had my first Etsy showcase and tho I did get some views, I received no sales. I'm thinking there may be a couple reasons for this and can't seem to think of a way to correct them. One is that it's summer in most of the world and know one is thinking of hats? Two is I have no feedback. I did have a sale but they did not leave feedback, I was hoping they would by my showcase so that I would have something there, but no, and of course there's that one reason which would be that know one likes my items... I don't want to believe that one :)
So I'm trying to come up with new ideas and things to make that I will enjoy and maybe someone can use. I was looking around at other sells on Etsy and saw that there are a few sellers of crocheted granny squares. My mother, years ago, told me to do this but I thought it wasn't such a good idea. Now I'm thinking maybe knitted squares. I didn't see any sellers of knitted squares, surprisingly. The problem is that this doesn't fit into my shop title or setting... I suppose I could change my name but I like the name and the image, I like hats, I like making them but maybe in the summer, not such a good idea. Maybe I'll just ad an "and" to it... Well anyway, this is what I'm doing today, the great brainstorm.

I'll be writing out the pattern later today and posting it here and on Ravelry. I like combining knit and crochet, I think the two can complement each other nicely, and I like to do both so it works for me. :) I hope there's others out there that do the same but it does seem like most of the time it's either one or the other.
This hat is just really a basic pattern for both knit and crochet. A good one day project.

My one and only 16" circular knitting needle has snapped. It was a very poorly made one that I have had for years and I tried to fix the connection where the needle meets cable and fixed it to much. :) For years I have just been warping it with plumbers tape to make it smooth but I kept having to redue it, and it was really a pain so I got out a knife and bought some sand paper.. I peeled away layers at the end of the needle but slipped and went into the cable. It was ok for a while but it had finally taken to much. So, I bought a set of every size I could ever possibly need, but I may have to wait almost a month to get them. :( What'll I do till then?

Cubes headscarf

I'm currently working on a headscarf with a cubed pattern. I'm thinking garter stitch the back for 3 inches right about at the top of the scarf, where it turns into the hood.. give it a little scrunch. Some binding off and adding of stitches around the middle of the hood so it doesn't have that point that I loath :) maybe some rib around the whole thing when it's done....hmmm

Well, That needed a bit of work... Sorry to all who tried it out and were confused by my nonsense. Also, at the bottom of this pattern is suggestions for knitting in the round on five double pointed needles.

I have to start by saying that I can't believe there isn't this pattern all over. I've looked at many sock patterns and all that I've seen have some weird complicated heel. I couldn't figure out why in the world we couldn't just knit a sock more like the way a store bought sock is made. I thought it would be simpler and I've figured out I was right. Here is my pattern for a perfectly simple and still wonderful looking sock.

Needle sizes: US size 5 and 7 needles
Yarn: worsted weight yarn of your choice
Gauge: 4 sts and 6 rows = 1 inch in stockinette stitch
(This pattern is to exactly my foot size. size 8 women, but I will be working on different sizes and post the pattern again with them.)

Start by casting on 34 stitches with size 5 needles.
Row 1-8: rib of your choice. I did knit two, purl two because it is my favorite. But you can do knit one, purl one also.
(You can rib for as many rows as you like. If you want a longer top, knit more rows. Shorter top, knit less rows. :)

Switch to size 7 needles.

Row 9: Knit
Row 10: Purl

Continue in stocking stitch (knit one row, purl one row) for 6 more rows. Or as long as you want your sock to be from top to bottom of heel, end with a purl row.

HEEL

I would just not turn the sock at the end of every round.. knit all purl rows, and for the toe:

Row 2: P, p, p, p, repeat.
Continue in stockinette stitch for 3 inches, ending with a purl row. Fold the bottom (provisional cast on) up so that the knit side is out.
Pick up one stitch from the provisional cast on and knit it together with the live stitches (stitches on your needle), *pick up the next stitch
from the provisional cast on and knit it together with your next live stitch. Slip the fist knit stitch on the right needle over the second stitch on the
right needle, repeat from * around.
We're knitting together the top and bottom of the cuff and casting it off at the same time. I hope I've made it clear how to do that.

Sew the cuff to the bottom of the dome. I did this by sewing 4 stitches then skiping one stitch from the dome only and sewing the next four.
This drops the 20 extra sts that are on the dome evenly.
Hide all your strings and your done!

Ticked at adobe

This morning I decided I had time to write out a patter. I was gonna do the checkers hat and convert it to a pdf. So I spent some time and made a word pad of it, signed into adobe.com, converted it, AND IT COMPLETELY ERASED MY FILE! Arg.. The file's there but it's completely blank. So it took forever to get into the forums to post for some help but hopefully I can get the file back, if not I'll try again tomorrow, I'm to aggravated to try again right now.

It's a Horse.

This is a basic horse pattern. I made this out of mostly red heart yarn, and used suede for the saddle. This took a little bit of time for me, about a week. It's really quite large, a perfect size. The pattern gets a little tricky at the knees and also I couldn't decide which way to sew them on, I looked at a bunch of finished projects from other knitters and they were sewn on both ways so I chose this way, thinking that it worked better for standing.

Lacy crocheted eco-sweater, with knit border.

This is a sweater made with Red Heart Ltd. Eco-Cotton Blend, in midnight marl. The pattern was a Revelry download that can be found here if your a member, if you aren't I highly recommend becoming one. I did my sweater a little different and added a simple 2X2 rib around all borders and some little latch hooks as fasteners.

Fingerless mittens with a flap

I needed to make these because i need my fingers to be able to work the touch screen at work, while standing by an almost constantly open door.

Made with worsted weight yarn, on set of 5 u.s. size 5 and us size 4 needles dpn.
Will also need a button, and yarn needle.
Crochet hook size d (for crocheted chain for button loop)

Co 44 with Size 5 u.s. dpn, divided with 11 on each needle.
Rib k2, p2 for two inches.
Next round knit 22, place marker, increase 1, place marker, knit 22.
Next round knit.

Thumb gusset- Divide stitches for needles as needle 1=10 stitches, 2=10 stitches, 3=6 stitches, 4=19 stitches.
Round 1- knit 22, slip marker, increase 1, knit to marker, increase 1, slip marker, knit 22.
Round 2- knit
Round 3- knit
Round 4- knit

Repeat rounds 1-4 until there are 13 stitches between markers.

Next round-knit 22, slip 13 stitches (the stitches between the markers) to a stitch holder or waste yarn, knit 22.

Continue knitting in stockinette stitch for 1 and 1/3 inches.

Change to size 4 dpn.

Rib k2, p2 for 1 and 1/2 inches. Bind off, cut yarn.

Flap-
Pick up 18 stitches along the front of the mitten with size 5 dpn, just under the first ribbed row. I started picking up just under the first purl stitch and ended just under the last purl stitch on the front. I used a crochet hook and pulled the yarn through the knitting the put the stitch on the needle, (you can use the knitting needles and poke it through the stitch then pull the yarn through to the front) use two needles and pick up 9 on one and 9 on the other, then cut the yarn, Cast on 26 stitches on two dpns, Then start to knit in the round with the first picked up stitch from the mitten, then joining at the end.

Round 1- Knit 18 from picked up stitches, knit 4, p2, k2, for front of flap until last 4, knit last 4. (Basically ribbing the front of the flap, which will be in your palm)

Continue as for round 1 for 1 inch, then knit stockinette stitch for 1 inch, On the last round of stockinette stitch do not knit the last 2 stitches, slip these last two onto needle one, the slip the first two stitches from needle three onto needle 2 so that every needle has 11 stitches.

Top shaping-
Round 1- needle 1- ssk, knit the rest. needle 2= knit to last two, k2 together. needle 3= ssk, knit the rest. needle 4= knit to last 2, k2 together.

Round 2- knit

Continue knitting rounds 1 and 2 until there are 10 stitches on your needles, graft these stitches together, cut yarn.

Thumb-
Pick up the 13 stitches from stitch holder with size 5 dpn. I picked up with four on needle 1, four on needle 2, four on needle 3, and one on needle 4.
Then with needle 4 pick up two more stitches from the mitten. (15 stitches total).

Knit around for 1 inch, bind off loosely.

Button-
Fasten a button just above the cuff of the glove.
Crochet a chain of 10 with size d crochet hook and fasten to grafted row of mitten (the top of the flap).

Hide strings.

Make another, Making the flap on the opposite side of the mittens.

Knit Cardigan with cables

This cardigan I made this month is simple and straight. No shaping. The sleeves don't decrease and the waist doesn't decrease. I love it. It's made from worsted weight yarn on a size 8 circular needle, you could use straights as it's mostly back and forth except for the sleeves, you could use dpns for those. This has a garter stitch border on the sleeves and bottom and outer edge, cables continue around the hood and down the front. My original cast on was 88, divided into 39 for back, 38 for front and 5 for each sleeve then increase every other row on each side of the sleeves with yos for 9 inches. Cable was 10 stitches long and cabled every 8 rows. Border was 5 garder stitches wide. 14 Garder stitch rows at the end of the sleeves and the last 2 1/2 inches of the bottom of the cardigan are garder stitched. Buttons spaced about every 4 inches.

Cast on 23 stitches with size 5 knitting needles.

Row 1: Purl
Row 2: Knit

Continue in stockinette stitch (knit one row, turn, purl next) until piece measures 6 inches from cast on, ending with a purl row.

Starting decrease
Row 1: Knit 2, ssk, knit to last four stitches, k2tog, knit 2.
Row 2: Knit 2, purl to last 2, knit 2.

Repeat row 1 and 2 until 7 stitches, ending with row 2.

Row 1: knit 2, ssk, slip one stitch from left needle to right needle, slip last stitch worked over the slipped stitch, yo, knit 2.
Row 2: knit all stitches
Cast off.

Sew button 1 1/4 inches from bottom (cast on edge) of piece, onto the right (knit) side.

Fold Cast on edge up 3 inches, sew sides together with button facing outside.

Strap:
I crocheted the strap on but the strap can also be knit in garter stitch (knitting every row).

With crochet hook e-
Attach yarn at right edge of knit cast on.
*Single crochet 3, chain 1, turn* Repeat until strap measures 6 inches.
Finish off and sew last three crochet stitches to last three knit cast on(left side).

With size 5 knitting needles-
Pick up 3 stitches from right edge of cast on.
*knit 3, turn* Repeat until strap measures 6 inches.
Cast off and sew to last three cast on stitches (Left side of cast on edge).

Row 2 and all even rows-purl

Row 3- (knit to next marker, increase one stitch, slip marker, knit next st, increase one st) repeat around.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until 1 and 1/2 inches, then continue stockinette stitch (knit every row) in the round until 43 stitches between first and second marker, and third and fourth marker. (armholes)

Removing sleeves stitches-

Knit to first marker, slip all stitches between first and second marker to a stitch holder. Cast On 8 stitches using Backward loop, continue to knit to next marker, slip all stitches between marker three and four onto a stitch holder. Cast on 8 stitches, knit remaining.

Continue in the round until piece measures 2 inches less than desired length.

Knit 46 stitches. There should be 46 Stitches on each needle. Fold in half and graft together.

Border- with Grey
Round 1- Join yarn at edge of hood, (I joined about half way between top and bottom of left side, there is no specific spot you need to join) *single crochet in edge of 4 knit rows, skip one row* repeat around.
Round 2-4- slip st in front loop only of every single crochet around.
Fasten off, hide string.

ARM
With black,
Pick up the 43 stitches on stitch holder, and 13 more from arm hole. (56 stitches)

Knit stockinette stitch in the round until sleeve measures 12 inches from picked up stitches.

Round 1- (increase round) *knit 14, increase one* repeat around.
Round 2- knit
Round 3- *ssk, knit 5, yo, knit 1, yo, knit 5, knit 2 tog* repeat around
Round 4- knit

The first hat is my favorite, I wear it almost every time I go out. It's made from Red Heart acrylic yarn, yes yes I know, but I like it.
The second one is my sons, by request. Made also from Red Heart.
The third one is made from Caron simply soft, floppy, soft and blue.

Crocheted Grey Sweater

This is my yoked crocheted sweater. Since I learned how to yoke with knit I wanted to try it with crochet and it turned out nice, and easy, and I think it's the best way to do a shirt of any kind. Before I learned this almost all of my shoulders would come out pointy, or just wrong or ugly in some way, but this changes that.

This is a double crochet stitch throughout, with a 5 double crochet shell border of three rows on the sleeves and bottom, and one row around the neck. The sleeves hang to about 5 inches past my elbow. Its made from Caron simply soft grey yarn, with a G hook. I increased for the sleeve every row as double crochet to ch, dc in ch, ch1, dc in next dc, ch1, dc in ch, dc to next increase.

Crocheted Bowling ball and pin

Materials:
size H crochet hook
Worsted weight white, red and black yarn.
yarn needle
optional- cardboard circle (one for each pin) measuring 1 3/4 inch in diameter.

PIN

Make as many as you like.

Worked in spiral (round but not joined) starting with white.

rnd 1: sc 6 into loop. (this is shown very well here) tighten and tie loop.
rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around.
rnd 3: *1 sc in next sc, 2 scs in next sc* repeat around.
rnd 4: *1 sc in next 2 sc, 2 scs in next sc* repeat around.
rnd 5: *1 sc in next 3 sc, 2 scs in next sc* repeat around.
rnd 6: sc around
rnd 7-20: sc around
Place cardboard circle at bottom and place some stuffing on top to keep in place.
rnd 21: *sc in next 3 sc, sc 2 together* repeat around.
rnd 22: sc around

rnd 24: sc around, change to red.
rnd 25: *sc in next sc, sc 2 together* repeat around.

Ball
Using black yarn:
First make the fingers that will be attached to the holes made in the ball.
1-ch 2, 6 scs in second ch from hook.
2-*sc in next two scs, 2 scs in next sc* around.
3-8- sc around. cut, leave 12 inch tail for sewing onto ball later on, fasten off.

Repeat 3-8, 3 times.

The first three rounds are worked in spiral, then back and forth until row 7, then back to spiral.

rnd 1: sc 6 into loop as for pin.(6 sts)
rnd 2: 2 scs in each sc around. (12 sts)
rnd 3: sc in next sc, 2 scs in next, sc in next, ch 1, turn (4 sts)
row 4: sc in next sc, 2 scs in next sc, sc in next 2 scs, ch 1, turn. (5 sts)
row 5: sc in next 3 scs, 2 scs in next sc, 1 sc in next sc, 2 scs in last, ch 1, turn. (7 sts)

Now skip two scs from the rnd, reattach yarn, and repeat rows 3-6, skipping two sts and reattaching the yarn, twice, (do not cut yarn after third section is made) so that you have three sections.

Now working back in spiral.
rnd 7: *ch 3, 2 scs in first sc of next section, sc in next 5 scs, 2 scs in next sc, sc in next 2 scs* repeat 2 more times.
rnd 8: *3 scs in 3-ch loop, sc in next sc, 2 scs in next sc, sc in next 6 scs,2 scs in next sc, sc in next 2 scs* repeat 1 more time then 3 scs in 3-ch loop, sc in next sc, 2 scs in next sc, sc in next 6 scs, 2 scs in next. (leaving out the last two scs)

Now sew your three fingers to the inside of the ball at the three holes made. I tied the three fingers together at the bottom and shoved some stuffing in the middle to make sure they wouldn't all get pushed to the edges of the ball when stuffed at the end.

Blue, yoked, knit tee

This is a yoked tee-shirt that I made this week. This is my first yoked project that I made this way and I'm now in love with it and am working on making a long sleeve in grey right now. Some quick notes- I used caron simply soft yarn, I started by casting on 126 on size 8 circular needles. I did the neck back and forth in knit 3 purl 3 rib then started increasing every other row, with one stitch in between increases,in the round, divided as 25 for sleeves, 38 for front and back. Increasing until there were 51 stitches for the sleeves. Placed sleeves on stitch holders, cast on 8 around the armpits, and knit stockinette st for 80! rows, then 4 rows on knit 3 purl 3 rib and bind off, then went back to the sleeves and did 4 rows of knit 3 purl 3 rib and bind off. This took a much longer time than I wanted but I am very happy with the results, especially in this yarn.

Short sleeve bolero

This is a crocheted bolero I made over a couple days in April. I didn't write out the pattern for this one. It's all straight double crochet, nothing fancy, except for the border. I did four rows of single crocheting in front loop, then single crochet in back loop, repeat around. I think this looks somewhat like the garter stitch in knitting. The sleeves were just done by crocheting around, I didn't make separate pieces then sew. I think it came out very nicely.

I made this in one night, quick, easy, adorable.

You can really make this with any yarn and hook you want because no matter what you use it will come out the size you want.

Here goes.
Using two strands of yarn held together.
Start by chaining two.
Rnd 1- 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join do not turn, ch 1.
Rnd 2- 2 sc in each sc around, join, ch 1.
Rnd 3- *2 sc in 1st sc, sc in next* repeat around, join, ch 1.
Rnd 4- *2 sc in 1st sc, sc in next two sc.* repeat around, join, ch 1.
Rnd 5- *2sc in 1st sc, sc in next three sc* repeat around, join, ch 1.
Rnd 6- *2 sc in 1st sc, sc in next four sc* repeat around, join, ch 1.

This is the pattern worked for the base of the basket. You can continue until it is as large as you want adding one more sc between 2 sc in each round. When it is as large as you want:

Rnd 1(of basket)- sc in each sc around, join with slip stitch, ch 1.

repeat Rnd 1 until it is as tall as you would like it to be. For the first couple rows it may not just start going straight up but you will see it forming the walls very soon.

Cluster top:
With single strand of yarn.
slip st in next sc, ch 1.
*skip next 2 stitches, 5 dc in next st* repeat around, join to top of 1st ch, fasten off, hide string.

Handle:

Still with two strands of yarn held together.

Chain 4, join into a ring with slip stitch to first ch, sc in same chain as join and, sc in each chain around, (4 sc) here I did not join and just spiraled it by continuing to sc in each sc around until it was as long as I wanted.
Slip st in next sc, fasten off.

You can join the handle at this point if you like or you can do the border first then join the handle, whatever you want.

For the white border I will try to explain this but I will also draw a couple pics to help.

Make a slip knot with the border yarn, insert the hook from the outside of the basket to the inside of the basket between sc stitches from last sc row of basket, grab the loop of the slip knot and pull it threw the basket to the front. (you may need to tighten the loop a little so that it just reaches over the next sc)
Now in same sc row, and *insert the hook between the next two stitches, yo and pull yarn threw basket and loop on needle.* repeat around entire basket.
To end: cut yarn, pull last loop on hook to inside of basket, pull yarn tail threw the loop and pull.

If you didn't attach the handles then that's the only thing left to do and your done! Easy right.

Pretty Cool Crochet Hat

This is a simple crocheted hat with a ribbed border. Not sure I came up with this one on my own, but here is my pattern.

Hook size: H
yarn: worsted weight

Starting off, chain 16.
Row 1: Single crochet in second chain from hook, and each chain across, chain 1, turn.(15 sts)
Row 2-70: Working in BACK LOOP ONLY, 1 sc in each sc across, chain 1, turn. (still 15 sts)

Seems like a lot of rows, I know, but when your only doing 15 sts.. goes pretty quick.

Now you have your border (bottom), to start making the dome:

Simple basic single crochet hat dome, I've done this with so many different crochet techniques, really the possibilities are endless. I've done flower borders, I've done knit cable borders, and just did a simple dome. You can come up with some really good stuff.

Row 1 of Dome: Working along the side of your crocheted rib, you should have chained one, now single crochet 70 (one single crochet in the end of every row of the rib) Do not turn. Slip stitch into first single crochet of row 1, ch 1. Do not turn.

Row 2-13: (Or until hat measures 5 inches from bottom of rib to top of last row completed) Working in rounds, one single crochet in every single crochet around, slip stitch in first single crochet, ch 1.

Row 14: *single crochet 8, single crochet two together* repeat from * to * around. Join with slip stitch, ch 1.
Row 15: *single crochet 7, single crochet two together* repeat from * to * around. Join with slip stitch, ch 1.
Row 16: *single crochet 6, single crochet two together* repeat from * to * around. Join with slip stitch, ch 1.
Row 17: *single crochet 5, single crochet two together* repeat from * to * around. Join with slip stitch, ch 1.
Row 18: *single crochet 4, single crochet two together* repeat from * to * around. Join with slip stitch, ch 1.
I bet you can't guess what's gonna happen next!
Row 19: *single crochet 3, single crochet two together* repeat from * to * around. Join with slip stitch, ch 1.
Row 20: *single crochet 2, single crochet two together* repeat from * to * around. Join with slip stitch, ch 1.
Row 21: *single crochet 1, single crochet two together* repeat from * to * around. Join with slip stitch, ch 1.
Row 22: (ah finally!) single crochet two together around, but leaving the last loop of every stitch on your hook, so that there are seven loops on your hook when done with the row.

Now cut the yarn leaving a good 5 inch tail. Pull the yarn threw all seven stitch, pull tight. I usually run it threw all seven stitches once more, just to be safe. Then you can cut the remaining tail.

Sew up that bottom seam and your done!! woohooo

The Simplest Two Needle Sock Pattern Ever

I have to start by saying that I can't believe there isn't this pattern all over. I've looked at many sock patterns and all that I've seen have some weird complicated heel. I couldn't figure out why in the world we couldn't just knit a sock more like the way a store bought sock is made. I thought it would be simpler and I've figured out i was right. Here is my pattern for a perfectly simple and still wonderful looking sock.

Needle sizes: US size 5 and 7 needles
Yarn: worsted weight yarn of your choice

(This pattern is to exactly my foot size. size 8 womens, but I will be working on different sizes and post the pattern again with them.)

Start by casting on 34 stitches with 5 mm needles.
Row 1-15: rib of your choice. I did knit two purl two becuause it is my favorite. But you could do knit one purl one also.
(You can rib for as many rows as you like, if you want a longer top, rib more rows :)

Row 16: Knit one, increase one by knitting in front and back on next stitch, knit until last two stitches, increase again by knitting in front and back of next stitch, knit one. (36 stitches on needle)

Row 17:purl

Continue in stocking stitch (knit one row, purl one row) for twelve more rows. Or as long as you want your sock to be from top to bottom of heel.

Switch to size 7 needles.

HEEL

Row 30: knit 20, turn your wok, purl 5, turn your work, knit 6, turn your work, purl 7, turn your work, knit 8, turn your work, purl 9 turn your work, knit 10, turn your work, purl 11, turn your work, knit accross.

Row 31: purl

Now just continue in stocking stitch (knit one row, purl one row.) for 5 1/2 more inches ending with a purl row. (Took me 36 more rows.)

Row 68: knit 10, knit two together, knit 12, knit two together, knit 10

Row 69: purl

Row 70: knit 9, knit two together, knit 12, knit two together, knit 9.

Row 71: purl

Row 72: knit 8, knit two together, knit 12, knit two together, knit 8.

Row 73: purl

Row 74: knit 7, knit two together, knit 12, knit two together, knit 7.

Row 75: purl

Row 76: knit 6, knit two together, knit 12, knit two together, knit 6.

Row 77: purl

Row 78: knit 5, knit two together, knit 12, knit two together, knit 5.

At this point you should have 24 stitches on your kneedle.

Row 79: purl, break yarn

Now this last part takes some flipping of the needles a bit but I doodled some pics to help. (Not the best of doodles but they're the best I could do)

Drop first six stitches from needle, fold so that right side meets right side then place six stitches onto other needle.

Now you'll need a third needle. I wasn't conserned about the size of the needle just as long as it's the same size or smaller than the others.

This is what I did.

Do this 5 more times, the third needle now has six stitches, needle two is empty, needle one has 12 stitches still on it.

Romove all 12 stitches from kneele one. Fold so that knit side is together with six stitches on each side. Place six stitches on needle one, six on needle two, like this.

Continute with these stitches as you did the last, there will be 12 stitches on needle.

Finish off, I did this by knitting two together, putting stitch back on left needle and knitting two.

Last, sew up the seam!

Triangular Crocheted Shawl Pattern

Shawl measures 59 inches across long edge and 28 inches at center back, excluding fringe.
Recomended yarn: 10 oz. 2 ply any color
Crochet hook size H.
Gauge: 3 V sts and 1 shell = 3 3/4 inches;

Fringe: Cut 4 strands of yarn each 14 inches long. Double (fold) these strands to form a loop. Insert hook in any ch-4 loop of edging and draw loop through. Draw ends through loop and pull up tightly to form a knot. Knot strands as before in each ch-4 loop of edging. Trim evenly.
